Inhalt: Advanced Controlling is a course that uses the case study method (known from Harvard Business School).

In the course, we will use case studies from the areas of Management Accounting, Controlling and Performance Measurement as well as Business Analysis and Corporate Finance.
The aim of Advanced Controlling is that students apply theoretical concepts of Managerial Accounting, Business Analysis and Controlling to real world firms and industries.

In each case study a firm is presented with its history and its business environment. A person within the firm (e.g. a manager or a recently hired graduate student) is facing a serious business problem and has to engage in decision making.
Students have to take the role of the decision maker. They will analyze qualitative information given on the firm's business situation and they will also assess quantitative data provided in the company's financial statements.
Students will have to present and to justify their managerial decision making.
Some case studies will also cover aspects of business ethics.

The course is taught in English.
The exam is a Portfolio exam, i.e. students are asked to participate in two group presentations, to write a short essay on each of the cases studies, and they will have to discuss some business ethics questions.
